Tom Sachs: Space Program

People complain about everything. Scroll through any social media and you'll find grumpy critics who know everything better than you. This book about Tom Sachs' Space Program was designed specifically for them—anticipating their criticism before they can even voice it.

Sachs recreates NASA procedures using plywood, metal, and cloth—making space exploration accessible by stripping away its industrial mystique. The book mirrors this approach: when readers encounter an article, visual cues redirect them to separate pages that address potential criticisms with educated responses. The design预empts negativity by acknowledging it first.

Five signatures were hand-bound using traditional methods. The front cover is salvaged zinc marked "Vieille-Montagne"—an old Belgian mine whose stamp coincidentally resembles space shuttle insignia. The back is plywood, Sachs' signature material and subject of his own shortfilm love letter. Black textile binding holds them together, echoing materials from his work.

Special thanks to Stijn Vanderstraeten for creating the zinc and wooden cover.
